Here's a simple recipe for baked pasta:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) pasta, such as ziti or penne
- 1 jar (24 oz/700g) of marinara sauce
- 2 cups (450g) of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup (225g) of ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup (60ml) of heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish.
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, heavy cream, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Add half of the cooked pasta and top it with half of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layering process with the remaining pasta and cheese mixture.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce on top and spread it evenly.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Let the baked pasta cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
