quick congee recipe/What do you put in a congee

 

Congee recipe:

Ingredients:

                                                              1. 1 cup of white rice

                                                      2. 8 cups of water or chicken broth


                                                        3. 1 inch of ginger, peeled and sliced

                                                                     4. Salt, to taste

                                                               5. Optional toppings:
                                                               chopped green onions

                                                                       6. cilantro

                                                                    7. fried garlic

                                                                     8.sliced chicken

sliced pork,

or any other toppings you like

Instructions:

1. Rinse the rice thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine the rice, water or chicken broth, and ginger. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.

3. Once the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let the congee simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. The congee will thicken and become creamy as it cooks.

4. After an hour, remove the ginger slices from the congee and discard them. Season the congee with salt to taste.

5. Serve the congee hot in bowls, topped with any toppings you like.

6. Cooking time: About 1 hour

7. Temperature: Low heat
